Dispelling Ashe Juniper (aka "Cedar") Myths

A long-time Central Texas rancher and neighbor of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, Don Gardner talks about the ecological benefits of Ashe juniper. While these benefits are not always recognized, Ashe juniper builds nutrient-rich soils, provides shade, protects seedlings from herbivory, reduces flooding and erosion, and provides a windbreak, all of which are needed to grow a healthy forest.
