Exploring Abruzzo - Campo Imperatore, Abruzzo, Aperitivo Time in old cable car, [Italy]

Fancy a drink in a unique place? How about an aperitivo in an old cable car in Abruzzo? Or make that a Cable Bar, in an old de-commissioned ski lift station on the Campo Imperatore, Gran Sasso, Abruzzo, Italy over 2000m above sea level.

We had a delicious glass of Montepulciano there after our walk up to the Corno Grande the other week. (If you haven’t yet watched that video here’s the link: https://youtu.be/Hx8_Ha4oWLw and you’ll see why we really did deserve a drink).

As well as a fantastic restaurant, and an outside Arrosticini hut in the summer, the Ostello Lo Zio located in the building next to the new Ski lift station has a separate bar. You can either take your drink outside and enjoy it surrounded by the amazing landscapes of the Campo Imperatore or, like we did, sip it in the former ski lift station. You can choose to sit on comfy sofas, on steps with a stunning view through the old lift cable wheel or, how about on a seat in the former stylish, vintage cable car?

In our short film you can see the inside of the former cable car station as well some clips of the Campo Imperatore at the ski lift station end of it with its imposing buildings: the Hotel Campo Imperatore in which Mussolini was held captive in 1943 and the Abruzzo Astronomical Observatory. This area really is a wonderful place; definitely worth a visit!
