Full Restoration Timelapse | 2011 Eastern Mothra BMX | No music | No commentary
Welcome to my channel!
In this video, I’m fully restoring my old 2011 Eastern Mothra “daily driver” BMX.
I bought this bike back in 2018 super cheap, and used it for years to run short errands. I loved the bike in general, but the original 8.25" bars and low-rise stem felt horrible, it was way too low by modern standards. So I quickly swapped them out for a top-load stem and a 9.5" bar.
The original color wasn’t bad, but without stickers it looked kind of plain. So I started adding graffiti-style drawings and Easter eggs inspired by my favorite games. But somehow I ended up covering the whole frame, fork, and crank arms in a "custom paint job", by just adding random black marker lines scribbled everywhere. I love this look to this day, it was soo unique.
I rode the bike like that for ages, but in 2022 I decided it was time for a full restoration including a new paint job. I filmed everything back then… but only just got the time to make this video happen. So here it is, finally!
I stripped the bike down to the last bolt, removed all the old paint from the frame, fork, and crank arms, and gave it a fresh new look. The frame and fork got a glossy red finish, but for the crank arms I wanted something different. I’ve painted a lot of cranks before, but with time even the original top quality paint is wearing off where your shoes rub, ahd that looks horrible... But I didn’t want chrome either, so I went with raw brushed metal sealed in clear coat.
Next, I deep-cleaned every part, swapped out the completely wrecked front hub bearing, and made a gear ratio change. I’ve always run a 25-9, but this time I wanted to try a 28-9, so I picked up a 28T Mankind sprocket and a new chain.
Finally, I reassembled the whole bike.
And I finally decided to sold it a month later...:D
If you enjoyed the video, please like and subscribe, more bike stuff is coming soon!
I already built a Dartmoor 26 player PRO dirt-street hybrid mtb, recorded everything in 4K 60 fps.
And I'm building multiple BMX bikes too from brand new parts, I don't know when, but these videos are on the way too if you are interested!
