The Ironic Fate of Pompeii’s Ancient Temple
The Temple of Jupiter in Pompeii was a Roman religious structure dedicated to the god Jupiter, located near the Forum. Built in the 2nd century BC, it followed a typical Roman temple design. Jupiter, associated with thunder and the protection of the Roman state, was a key deity in Roman mythology. The temple was preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, and excavations have provided insights into ancient Pompeii's religious practices.
