Modular Van Floor Installation WITHOUT Subfloor || 2011 Ford Transit Connect Conversion
How to install laminate hardwood flooring in a 2011 Ford Transit Connect Passenger XLT without subfloor. Every half inch of space counts in your van build, especially when you are working with a Transit Connect. You can save a couple inches in your van and lots of time and money by installing your hardwood flooring directly onto the ridging already present in your van.
My Transit Connect is a passenger edition with a second row of seating in the back. Everything with this van buildout will be modular so that I can use my van to transport anywhere from 2-5 people. This flooring installation includes modular flooring pieces that can be removed so that you can make use of either or both back row seats.
This flooring installation took about 8 hours to complete, which includes filming time, and cost $180. Step one was to rip 1/4 inch plywood down to fill the gaps left between the ridging in the back of the van. Step two was to install the laminate hardwood flooring on top of the riding and 1/4 inch plywood strips. Step 3 was to connect the flooring to the 1/4 inch plywood strips with the metal finishing pieces to make sure the floor stays down and connect.
This installation method would work for both modular and non-modular build outs. A non-modular build out that only needed to accommodate the front two seats would be even quicker and easier to install.
