Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: Ganja residents sift through rubble as truce with Armenia breaks down

Residents of Ganja looked for their belongings in amongst rubble on Oct. 18 against the backdrop of a truce between Azerbaijan and Armenia that broke down within hours.

Locals sifted through the remnants of their homes as some formed a makeshift memorial to remember their loved ones killed in a missile attack on Oct. 17.

Armenia and Azerbaijan accused each other on Sunday of violating a new humanitarian ceasefire in fighting over the mountain enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh, hours after it was agreed.

The truce agreed on Saturday came into force at midnight after a week-old Russian-brokered ceasefire failed to halt the worst fighting in the South Caucasus since the 1990s. At least 750 people have been killed since fighting began on Sept. 27.
