Operation Scatter, Migrant Hotels & Scotland Border Crossing

On our journey from England to Scotland, we stopped off in Northallerton, North Yorkshire to look into reports linked to “Operation Scatter” the UK policy aimed at dispersing asylum seekers across different areas instead of concentrating them in hotels.

We had been told this migrant hotel was recently closed, with service users moved into HMOs and private apartments as part of the wider dispersal strategy. However, what we found was MEN!

There were clear signs of rooms being stripped out beds, wardrobes, and fittings removed - indicating that closure was underway. But at the same time, a large portion of the building still appeared occupied, with roughly 70% of rooms seemingly still occupied by single male migrants.

Our first stop in Scotland takes us into Dumfries and Galloway, where we visit a Mercure hotel in Dumfries.

🚨 Reports in the news state that police issued personal safety alarms to schoolgirls following incidents of suspicious behaviour in the area. Police Scotland have said enquiries were carried out and no criminality was established at the time, with the alarms issued as a precautionary measure. Despite this, the situation has sparked discussion locally about safety and community impact.
