MG Hector Overview

MG Motor has commenced production of the Hector SUV in India. The British carmaker acquired GM’s defunct Halol plant in Gujarat in 2017, which has an annual initial capacity of 80,000 cars. Official unveil of the Hector SUV will happen on May 15, with the launch set for June.

The Hector was spied on Indian roads multiple times without camouflage, revealing two new colours and variants. The diesel engine is a Fiat unit that is used in the Jeep Compass as well, which produces 173PS of power and 350Nm of torque. The petrol engine is a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit that makes 143PS and 250Nm of torque. The petrol will also come mated to a DCT and will also feature a 48V mild hybrid system. iSMART is the connected tech in the Hector, which can also be used to activate functions like emergency calls, vehicle status, remote control for the sunroof, tailgate, door lock, and more.

The Hector is expected to come with a price range of 15 lakh - 20 lakh (ex-showroom) and will face competition from the likes of the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV500.
