Is it OK to trace your artwork?

Is it ever OK to trace the outlines for your artwork? Or is it cheating?
But what all this really boils down to is, "What is your purpose for tracing?" For me, when doing commissions, it saves a great deal of time and simultaneously prevents time-wasting inaccuracies in my initial sketch - when I could be getting on with rendering the artwork. Tracing is only the beginning - there is still much observational skill needed to complete the artwork.
