2012 NISSAN Pathfinder - 4-Wheel Drive
4-Wheel Drive (4WD) (if so equipped)
Your 4-Wheel Drive system allows you the option of selecting among different drive modes, based on road conditions. This 4-Wheel Drive shift switch electronically controls operation of the transfer case. Rotate the switch to shift between each mode.
Depending on how your vehicle is equipped, you will be able to choose among these drive modes: 2-Wheel Drive, 4H, 4LO and, if so equipped, AUTO mode.
2-Wheel Drive is for normal driving conditions, typically for dry, paved roads.
AUTO mode, if so equipped, is for driving on paved or slippery roads. It automatically changes torque distribution between front and rear wheels depending on road conditions.
In 4-Wheel Drive, 4H provides greater traction for rocky, snowy and sandy roads. 4H can be used up to, but no higher than 62 miles per hour.
4LO provides maximum power and traction for situations such as driving on steep grades or on rocky, sandy or muddy roads. The maximum safe speed in 4LO is 31 miles per hour.
Please note these shifting essentials: You can shift into 4H while driving at no more than 62 miles an hour. However, to shift into or out of 4LO, your vehicle must be at a standstill. Once stopped, you must depress the brake pedal and move the shift lever to the NEUTRAL position. Push this switch IN when shifting into or out of 4LO.
This is the 4-Wheel Drive shift indicator light. When the engine is running, it will illuminate to show the drive mode you have selected.
To avoid causing damage to your 4-Wheel Drive system, never shift between 4LO and 4H while driving. Also, do not drive on dry, hard surface roads in 4H or 4LO, as it will cause unnecessary noise, excessive tire wear and increased fuel consumption.
For more detailed information on 4-Wheel Drive, please consult your Owner's Manual. And in every type of road condition, be sure to drive carefully!
