The Anti-Ute! Testing Ford’s workhorse over three months (Ford Transit Custom 2025 Long-Term Review)

Dual-cab utes are the most popular option for Aussies looking for a split-usage vehicle; something that can handle the hard yakka of the weekday and the weekend.

But has the humble van been forgotten, when it is perhaps the best of both worlds? That’s a hypothesis road test editor John Law is seeking to answer in our next three months while he embarks on a long-term test of the Ford Transit Custom.

Priced at $63,990 in Sport DCiV crew-cab guise, or roughly $70,000 driveaway in NSW, the Transit Custom isn’t a super affordable workhorse, but it promises a list of features, everyday comfort and usability that goes beyond the expectations of many van buyers

A rival to the Toyota Hiace, Peugeot Expert and many more, the Transit Custom promises to be a big step up over the previous generation, but will it hold up over the longer term?
