The best fictional villains in history are given understandable motivations, so that we almost sympathize with their causes... before our moral outrage kicks in. Thanos, the Marvel big bad from Infinity War and Endgame, falls into that category, as a dogmatic ecoterrorist trying to "save" the universe by killing half of it, an extremist view that some devil's advocates have debated as, at the very least, well intentioned. Similarly, villains like Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight and Killmonger in Black Panther have been reexamined over the years as populists speaking for the forgotten and the oppressed. In this episode of #BigQuestion, Erik Voss and special guest Joven explore which supervillains are the most noble in their causes.
