NSW public sector wage boost slashed
NSW public sector employees have been awarded a 0.3 per cent pay increase despite the state government wanting to freeze wages.
“We have, at the moment, an unemployment rate of 6.7 per cent, it is the biggest economic crisis in 100 years,” NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said.
“The advice and the evidence provided by NSW Treasury, by our chief economist, has been that the best investment of taxpayer dollars at this time is to direct government spending and infrastructure investment.”
Public sector workers in NSW traditionally receive a 2.5 per cent wage increase per year.
Labor and the unions questioned whether the savings would generate employment.
