Rhubarb and Apple Crumble
This is a recipe for delicious rhubarb and apple crumble. You can follow my instructions and make your own pastry or you can purchase pre-made pastry at the grocery store. Once you make this and see how easy it is, you will be making it for years to come. Serve with fresh whippped cream or ice cream.
Pastry
2 cup of plain/all purpose flour
1/2 cup of sugar (icing sugar is best but not essential)
1/3 cup of butter (cold from the fridge)
1 egg
Cold water (as needed)
Sieve flour and icing sugar
Fold in butter for a breadcrumb consistency
Whisk egg and add to mixture
If needed, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of cold water
Refrigerate for 1/2 an hour
Prepare rhubarb and apples. If apples are sweet, add 1/4 cup of sugar. If using cooking apples which are sour, add 1/2 cup of sugar
Crumble
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of butter
Combine to make a crumble
Heat oven to 180 degrees in Europe/380 degrees Canada/America
Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or when pastry and crumble look ready. (pastry will be browned on the edges).
