Lightning Bolts Over the Long Island Sound (in Slow Motion)

Lightning is caused when the formation of clouds separates charged particles in the air. When the charges temporarily equalize themselves, we see a lightning bolt (light); and the sudden movement of air molecules causes thunder (sound). Lightning may be seen and not heard when it occurs at a distance too great for the sound to carry as far as the light from the strike or flash.
