Why the World Needed Apache Kafka

Batch processing worked — until the world went real-time.

When systems needed to detect fraud instantly and react in milliseconds, overnight reports were useless. Early real-time tools like RabbitMQ helped, but they couldn’t survive massive scale. As companies like LinkedIn exploded with data, the old systems started to break.

That’s when Kafka was born — built from the ground up for real-time, high-scale data streaming. One year later, LinkedIn open-sourced it, and the rest is history.
