The Recipe for Colonization

The attack on the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) is part of a larger formula for colonizing Native peoples — the last stage being taking Native children. By stealing Native children, they lose ties to their family, community, and culture and their sense of belonging.

ICWA was put in place to end harmful policies and practices that separated Native kids from their communities. But colonization is still happening today as ICWA is challenged in the Supreme Court.
