Does AI Actually Forget You?

AI reads text as tokens (about 4 characters each) and can only hold so many at once - that limit is the context window, its memory for the current chat. Overflow one chat and the oldest messages drop out, so it can't see them.

But in 2026 there's a second layer: ChatGPT and Claude now have a persistent memory that saves a summary of your past chats and remembers you across conversations. The catch - it's a summary, not every word. So for long chats, paste a quick recap.
