John had not said anything to anyone about the disease that he was beginning to feel, but from 'A Love Supreme' onwards his behavior had changed: his eagerness to innovate had grown out of proportion, his haste had become unstoppable... His weight had increased to 110 kg. and his sufferings were increased, until the unexpected, unstoppable, incurable, tragic conclusion (liver cancer), which struck down a great man in the prime of life, at the full height of creativity, who was along a personal path taken towards new unexplored musical universes, of which only he was beginning to glimpse distant borders.
What a huge loss for music and for all mankind!
To Trane was dedicated the Church of St. John Coltrane, founded on divine inspiration from the Franzo King Bishop and his wife, the Reverend Mother Marina King in 1971 and the full title is 'African Orthodox Church St. John Coltrane' (see the video). And all worship is administered through a band, led by the same Franzo King, which is a good soprano saxophonist.
At the center of the liturgy, there is 'A Love Supreme', religious music performed by the same Coltrane, which marks a profound change, almost mystical in its existence. A real 'spiritual awakening'.

John non aveva detto nulla a nessuno della malattia che cominciava ad avvertire, ma da 'A Love Supreme' in poi il suo comportamento era cambiato: la sua voglia di innovare era cresciuta a dismisura, la sua fretta di creare era diventata inarrestabile...
Il suo peso era aumentato a 110 kg. e le sue sofferenze si accrebbero, fino all'inaspettata, inarrestabile, incurabile, tragica conclusione (cancro al fegato), che colpì un grande uomo nel fiore degli anni, nel pieno della sua creatività, che era in un personale cammino intrapreso verso nuove inesplorati universi musicali, di cui solo lui cominciava a intravedere i confini lontani.
Che enorme perdita per la musica e per tutta l’umanità!
