Break Phrasal Verbs : Break up, Break out, Break away, Break in, Break into, Break off, Break down
Break out of your rut and improve your English communication with break phrasal verbs! In today’s English lesson I will break down 7 categories of phrasal verbs using the verb ‘break’. The phrasal verbs in today’s lesson include: Break up, Break out, Break away, Break in, Break into, Break off, and Break down. We will take a look at each of these phrasal verbs and examine the multiple meanings that they each have.
1) Break up: end a relationship, split, separate, divide, start laughing uncontrollably, have a bad cellphone connection.
2) Break out: escape from a place, leave, something develops and spreads, something bad suddenly starts to occur.
3) Break away: escape from a person, separate from a group (especially in sports).
4) Break in: forced and illegal entry, interrupt, intervene, overcome the newness of something, make something less stiff.
5) Break into: illegal entry, stop a conversation, suddenly start an action such as crying, laughing, singing etc, start to have success in a highly competitive industry or career, use an amount of money you had been saving.
6) Break off: Detach something from the main section, separate, take a piece or part of something, end a relationship or cancel an engagement.
7) Break Down: Something electronic stops working, lose control of your emotions out of sadness, separate something into smaller parts so that you can analyse it easier, dismantle something.
