Stains and Footprints on Mars surface spotted by Perseverance Rover

On April 15, 2021 NASA’s Perseverance Rover sent series of images of Mars’s soil with Stains and Footprint. Mars’s regolith has specific structure. Stains on images could be formed by microquakes on Mars or during dust storm. Regolith can vary from being essentially absent to hundreds of meters in thickness. Its age can vary from instantaneous (for an ash fall or alluvium just deposited) to hundreds of millions of years old. Regolith may host many mineral deposits, for example mineral sands, calcrete uranium, and lateritic nickel deposits, among others. Elsewhere, understanding regolith properties, especially geochemical composition, is critical to geochemical and geophysical exploration for mineral deposits beneath it. The levels detected in the Martian soil are around 0.5%, which is a level considered toxic to humans.
