Just over 2 years ago I decided to dig out my old neglected bongos from the garage, after initially buying them, playing around for a couple months then letting them gather dust for a decade 🤦🏻‍♂️. Anyway, this time around I was determined to stick at it, and I did! The more I learnt the more obsessed I became, going on to buy my first conga drum, then another, then a cowbell, and on and on…

My daily 30-60 minute practice became a source of daily meditation, of stress relief and joy in the midst of a very challenging time caring for my mother through her dementia. Learning something completely new without the pressure of having to be any good, allowing myself the freedom to be crap - beginners mind. The huge satisfaction of setting new challenges, incrementally overcoming those and seeing some development in real time.

So why do I post this particular video now?
This isn’t a ‘look what I can do’ it’s more a ‘look what you can do’ post! As we get older we often tell ourselves a story of WHAT we are capable of, WHO we are, HOW we are - we can get set in our ways and beliefs. It's important to remember that these are just stories, it’s all pliable. I’ll be turning 50 in just over a year, and look, I just learnt something new!!
