Gavin Williamson has confirmed that GCSEs, A-levels and AS levels are being cancelled this year, in favour of teacher assessments, telling MPs: "This year we will put our trust in teachers, rather than algorithms".

But the Education Secretary dodged several questions about whether teachers would be prioritised for a vaccination, despite MPs suggesting this would allow schools to reopen more quickly.

On Monday, the government announced that schools would remain closed in the nation's third lockdown.
