According to the latest report by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the levels of fecal coliform bacteria in various locations of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers during Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj have been found to exceed the prescribed standards. Generally, the acceptable limit of fecal coliform in water safe for bathing is 2,500 units per 100 milliliters. However, samples collected from the Sangam area showed levels ranging from 2,000 to 4,500 units per 100 milliliters, which is significantly higher than the safe limit.
