How It Works: Powerhouse/Car Barn Visit, Cable Car Controls, Buying Tickets

In celebration of National Cable Car Day (Jan 17th), this ode to the San Francisco Cable Car system is a behind the scenes look at what makes the cable cars run! I show you how to buy tickets, how the cars actually operate (look closely next time you ride one and see if you can catch what the gripman is doing) and stop by the powerhouse where the under street cable is powered and the car barn above it where the cars not in service are housed.
