How did British witches cast spells on Adolf Hitler during WW2?

On the night of 1 August 1940 — Lammas Eve, one of the most sacred dates in the Wiccan calendar — a group of seventeen occultists and local residents gathered in a forest near Highcliffe, on England's southern coast.

In a ritual that would later be documented as Operation Cone of Power, participants performed a ceremonial working intended to place a psychic suggestion in Adolf Hitler's mind, discouraging him from ordering an invasion of Britain.

The ceremony was witnessed and later recorded by Gerald Gardner, a prominent figure in the modern Wiccan movement. Germany never invaded. Gardner declined to claim the ritual was responsible — but declined, equally, to rule it out.
