for my niece, happy birthday.

Hi.
Most of you don’t know this about me, but one of the easiest ways for me to express my feelings is through writing.
So, here I am. Writing at 2:30 AM because my mind is racing and I simply cannot sleep.
Instead of just posting this super long story on my facebook for everyone to read, I decided to make a video to go along with it. So, Peyton, this is for you.
Let’s go back to where it began. It was my junior year of high school and life was great. My classes were hard, but I was weeks away from meeting our cousin, Kennedy. You’re mom and dad were over at our house, helping get a few things together before the baby shower. That’s when your mom went to get a box out of her car, with the word love written on it. An early birthday gift for your Nana, or at least that's what we were told. Peaking around the lid of the box I had a perfect view of what was in it. A small baby elephant, and a thing of blocks that read “30 weeks until we’re grandparents”. My mouth dropped, and I looked over at your mom, who was already in tears. Nobody else had realized what was going on yet. My heart began beating faster than it ever has as Nana’s eyes became wide and her hand was on her chest.
“She’s pregnant.”
Even after hearing the words come out of my moms mouth I couldn’t believe it. My sister, pregnant.
your mom, my big sister, is one of the very best people i know. she is so different from me, and much better than me. She's one of those women that was born to be a mom. your mom. she wanted you so badly, sunshine – when she learned you were coming, you made her world turn. you still do. She’s one of the kindest, most generous, loving people I know. She is my first best friend, my first hero, my first idol, the one that I look up to the most and have strived to be like for my whole life. She will be a better mother to you then you could have ever possibly wished for and you are so lucky to have her. If ever you happen to forget that, I promise that I will always remind you. After I take you out for ice cream and sympathetically listen to you complain about her first, of course. As she has taught me, she will teach you so many wonderful things; Like what it means to be a strong, independent woman, how to be kind to everyone, and how not to back down when you believe in something.

So Peyton, after 365 days of being in my life, i can assure you that you have made my life the best it has ever been. As you continue to grow, I will always be there for you. Everytime I see you I forget about the rest of the world. There’s a baby in my life that I love more than anything, and I’d do anything just to see her smile. Every memory I make with you will last forever. So Peyton, when you’re listening to this many years into the future, I hope you can tell that you mean the absolute world to me, because you are my world. You’re so amazing in so many different ways. Watching your personality develop and you hit every milestone makes me realize how fast you're growing.
Thank you, Peyton. For making me who I am. You’ve shaped me into the person I am today. I’d be completely lost without you.
