Dead Tractors (Graveyard Scrap Metal)

Everywhere I go in eastern Washington I see abandoned, rusted farm equipment just left in the open to rust over. Do the farmers fix them until they are irreparable and when they last break down just leave them? Could they be sold for scrap? Seems like a waste – unless it’s a tax write off.
