Itopia fest Bo Koster of My Morning Jacket and Roger Waters

For a band like ours, that's constantly evolving and pulling from different inspirations and blending genres and combining genres and really making no effort to stick to a single sound (though hopefully remaining in some way cohesive throughout it all), it's always weird to put genre names on what we do. But that's part of how the world works, so we call our genre "psychedelic indie rock," which feels like a pretty decent label if you've got to reduce the whole catalog to a few words. 

When you're a psychedelic indie rock band in the current era, it's a pretty safe bet that one of your hero bands is My Morning Jacket. These guys have been putting out some of the coolest, rockingest, psychedelicest, quality music for the past couple decades. When we were writing and recording the title track for our album iTopia, we knew that there was a big middle section that needed a soloist on top of it. We wanted something psychedelic, something rocking, but it had to have just the right tones and be done with just the right taste. So we started by reaching out to a hero, Bo Koster, keyboardist for MMJ and Roger Waters (have we mentioned that we love Pink Floyd once or a hundred times?). To our delight, Bo said, "yes, yes, a thousand times, yes." Ok well, I think he just said "yes" once, but in the revisionist history of my memory, it played out like a rom com. We sent the song to Bo, he recorded a bunch of different ideas, sent it back, and it blew us all away. He added the perfect feel and the perfect sounds and just breathed so much life and beauty and excitement into the track. This song remains one of my favorite things we've ever made as a band.
