My Mini-boat series - How to Build a Small Wooden Boat #14 Using regular Plywood, not using marine plywood - Electric Motor Powered - Watch me make the wood boat, underside hull and steering wheel. I show you how I begin making my oak steering wheel for the boat, plus gluing the underside of the hull to begin forming the overall shape of the hull. I had issues cutting the cross grain glued oak planks, but got it cut eventually. I also glue down the port side bottom hull, make a template pattern out of vellum and define the shape of the side fairing on the port side too. For the first time, this small "how to build a wooden boat" series is really taking shape. Not far now is the ply wood strip boat build section of this vessels creation. I’ve wanted to play with wooden strip boat building, just like the wood strip canoe builds.

Soon enough, in this wood boat build, I’ll have my chance at creating some very cool hull lines using this technique. After the hull is formed using plywood, I’ll make some fillet with fine sawdust and epoxy glue and run along all edges and corners inside the boat itself. I’ll then place fiberglass onto the outside of the hull and coat with resin, to waterproof and make seaworthy this small wood boat, measuring only 8 feet long, powered by a small electric hull mounted motor. After this boat build is complete, I will be making a 2 seater, mini Chris Craft like finish electric boat. Even though electric, the boat will be able to accept an outboard or inboard motor should I want to. A plywood hull construction, with bandsaw cut frames, cut from 1 sheet of ply, rather than made of strips of wood, screwed and glued together. Each time I hand make a craft, I will fine tune the end result. This boat has a very small V-shape hull, and I’m excited t see how it handles on the water, compared to its flat-bottomed counterparts.
