Laxman Jhula is officially closed since 2019. But people still come and stand before it. For hours. And say it was enough.

Here is why.

According to the Ramayana, after rescuing Goddess Sita from Lanka, Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, and Lord Laxman were returning to Ayodhya. At Rishikesh, the Ganga stood in their way. Lord Laxman crossed it using just two jute ropes. That single act made this spot sacred forever.

A jute rope bridge was built here in 1889. Washed away in the 1924 floods. Rebuilt as an iron suspension bridge in 1929. 450 feet long. 70 feet above the Ganga. Named Laxman Jhula. For 90 years it carried pilgrims, sadhus, backpackers, and yogis. Closed permanently in 2019.

But here is what nobody tells you. The bridge that replaced it is called Janki Setu. Named after Goddess Sita. Which means Rishikesh now has Ram Jhula, Laxman Jhula, and Janki Setu. The entire Ramayana on one river. In one city. Thousands of years later.
