St. Vincent on Daddy's Home, Pay Your Way In Pain and "the blues for 2021"
St.Vincent is a Grammy-winning artist known for her ability to be a bit of a chameleon on each of her records and a virtuoso musician. On her latest album Daddy's Home, she's channeling 70’s New York, and bands like Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan.
And while she’s channeling all these great musicians, she’s also revealing her own story too. On this new album Daddy's Home, she delves into her father's prison sentence for stock manipulation. This was all happening in 2010, right when St.Vincent’s career was taking off in a big way. She would go visit him in prison and people would be asking her for autographs.
In 2019, her father was released from prison.
And now St. Vincent is reflecting on this experience on her sixth studio album.
