MK -17 1.46 cc Russian Model Diesel Engine

First run of a friends MK - 17 engine after renovation with a custom made piston of fine grain cast iron.

Steel cylinder re-honed and piston lapped to fit.

Excess fore-aft crankshaft play shimmed out.

Rear disc valve induction. Twin ball races. Fixed speed venturi.

Propeller fitted is an Italian AvioModelli black nylon "Supersonic" 7 x 4.

Purpose of run: test engine and find settings.

Engine is running rich and very slightly under compressed. Exhaust oil is amber coloured, a sign that all is well.

Note rise in propeller speed as fuel tubing is pinched at end of run. When running in is finished, there will be plenty of performance available.

This is a very nice little engine. A Soviet era product, it is no longer manufactured. However it is still widely available due to the vast quantites produced.
Fuel composition:

1. Kerosene 40%

2. Di-ethyl Ether 33.5%

3. Castor Oil 25%

4. Iso-Propyl Nitrate 1.5%
