Clergy urges gov’t to ensure safety of school children
Religious and political leaders in Busia have called on the government to prioritize children's safety in the push for school reopening expected on Monday, May 13th 2024 amid heavy rains which have caused flooding across the country.
Led by Bishop Joel Odhiambo of Joe ministries Busia and Budalangi Mp, Raphael Wanjala , they have called on parents and boat users in Budalangi to exercise patience in areas with flooding as the entire Bunyala South ward of Bunyala Constituency is flooded, 10 schools in the area remain submerged rendering the roads impassable and classrooms inaccessible, they say that the govment has forgotten the people of Budalangi.
This comes a month after water CS Zachary Njeru toured the flood-prone Budalangi area and assured locals that the National Youth Service would be sent to the region as an efficient way of handling the flooding situations in the areas.
