East Midlands - Morning Cargo Spotting | Departures - Air Contractors, Icelandair, TNT, Atlantic
The morning of the 21st of July 2013 was a great one. At 04:40am my Dad and I were wide awake at the mound, plane spotting at East Midlands Airport until 06:20am.
I've uploaded a couple of videos from this trip last year but I purposely left you waiting for the best videos, and now they're here.
East Midlands Airport (EMA/EGNX) is a big cargo airport in the UK, with numerous cargo flights arriving every evening, and then departing in the morning. So when my Dad and I went up to East Mids on the 20th/21st July 2013, we got the evening arrivals, spotting from about 16:00 until 21:30, then got the early morning departures, which are shown in this video!
The morning departure situation is similar to the evening arrival situation, it all basically happens at once!
In the space of about 1 hour 40 minutes we saw 10 cargo takeoffs!
Here are all of them:
DHL 757-200F
European Air Transport Leipzig (DHL) A300-600RF (Old Livery)
Star Air Maersk 767-200
Star Air Maersk 767-200
European Air Transport Leipzig (DHL) A300-600RF (part JAL livery)
Icelandair Cargo 757-200
TNT 737-400
Atlantic Airlines BAe ATP
Atlantic Airlines BAe ATP
Air Contractors 737-400 (with ASL Aviation Group sticker)
This video begins with an opening sequence with a background track (Shockline - Robot Love) showing what we saw in episode 1 - all the evening arrivals the previous night. Then, boom, we are right back at the mound 7 hours later. The DHL 757 was taxying as we arrived so there was no time for an intro shot:L The video continues with some great roaring takeofffs. 6 minutes into the video and you will see a still shot of a Star Air Maersk being pushed back to face us, quite a sight. You will see the flight controls being tested, flaps being set, and taxi light turned on, before it taxies out of the apron for departure from W1. ATC communications are interspersed in the video too. Some more departures left before at 06:20am we had basically seen what we wanted and headed back to the hotel to sleep! After a quick nap we went back out to do some more spotting - lots more footage is still to come from East Midlands so stay tuned!
