Hurricane Laura: Texas, Louisiana prepare as storm leaves behind damage in Cuba

People in Texas and Louisiana were making preparations Monday and Tuesday as Storm Laura, now a hurricane, made its way closer to the Gulf of Mexico. Property was boarded up and people in both states were filling sandbags.

The storm caused some damage in Cuba on Monday night leaving some of the easternmost provinces dealing with fallen trees and branches and property damage.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott warned residents that the storm is anticipated to be a Category Three hurricane but people should be prepared for it to possibly increase into a Category Four storm. He advised if residents are under an evacuation order, they need to take all possible steps to ensure they protect their lives. In parts of Texas, long lines on highways could be seen as people evacuated the state.
