Machine Embroidery ✂️ Choosing Stabilizer Types | SEWING REPORT

Being fairly new to machine embroidery on my Brother PE800, at first I was baffled about which type of stabilizer to use on various projects - from hats to T-shirts to home dec. Sharing my own guide to stabilizers here!

Tear Away Stabilizer - Most like paper, comes in different weights. Good for projects where the back isn't visible, and item isn't frequently laundered like designs on fabric that will be sewn into home dec projects.

Cut Away Stabilizer - more cloth-like and permanent, great for knits and clothing, hats.

Water Soluble Stabilizer - dissolves completely in water, temporary. I use on top of towels and textured fabric / anything with a pile or nap.

Wash Away Stabilizer - Fibrous stabilizer that dissolves in water, firmer than water soluble stabilizer as it holds stitches. Can be used on backs of towels, blankets or projects where the back is visible like free standing lace, fleece and pashmina. Make sure to keep this product in a dry, non-humid area.

Tender Touch is a lightweight, permanent stabilizer that is ideal to "cover-the-back" of finished computerized embroideries to protect sensitive skin from scratchy stitches.

Terial Magic - spray on, then iron temporary stabilizer - I apply to knits before embroidering, but also use permanent cut away stabilizer on the back.
