Monotube Gas Shock Absorber Technology & Internals
Monotube shocks use a single tube for operation, containing both the hydraulic shock fluid and nitrogen gas charge.
The oil and gas are separated by a free floating piston which puts the oil on the top and gas on the bottom.
As the shock operations within the fluid chamber, the oil heats up, and the nitrogen gas chamber increases in pressure in an attempt to prevent cavitation within the oil chamber.
