Vicki Explores ... Coventry

Thank you to Vicki Explores’ Patreons for sending me to Coventry (!)

There is so much to see and do in Coventry - this video is just the tip of the iceberg.

NB: I can’t find anything to confirm Allan’s suggestion that the weather vane on Trinity Church is a time capsule - but I loved the idea of it, so thought I would put it in the video for you to chat about in the comments.

The meaning of the phrase 'sent to Coventry' is hard to pin down. The book I refer to in the video describes it as: "The true origins of the phrase 'sent to Coventry' lie in the city's past as a garrison city when soldiers stayed in inns, got drink, got girls pregnant, got into fights and even occasionally killed people. During this time, before the buildings of the barracks in 1792, the saying is actually recorded and locals, especially girls, would not fraternise with the soldiers".
