Top 5 Creatures With The Longest Lives In The World

Did you know there are creatures on Earth that can live for hundreds of years?
The one ranked first is even believed to possess the power of biological immortality.

Number 5, the Arctic clam.
Arctic clams can live up to 507 years. Just like trees, their age can be determined by the growth rings on their shells. These animals are commonly found in the Arctic region, and their shells can grow larger than 50 millimeters.

Number 4, the ancient lizard.
This creature is estimated to live for around 150 years. Often called a “living fossil,” it is considered one of the longest-living vertebrates on Earth. This cold-blooded reptile has a flat body, short and powerful legs, a long tail, and can grow to about 30 centimeters in length.

There is even a Greenland shark that has survived from the era of the Ming Dynasty until today, living for more than 500 years.
Next are some of the longest-living creatures in the world.

Number 3, the Greenland shark.
This shark can live for over 500 years and is one of the largest sharks still alive today. It inhabits the deep waters of the Arctic and the North Atlantic Ocean. Surprisingly, Greenland sharks do not reach adulthood until around 156 years of age. Scientists believe their incredible lifespan is linked to their extremely slow metabolism and inactive lifestyle. In addition, their body tissues contain high levels of trimethylamine oxide, making their meat toxic if not prepared properly.

Number 2, the salamander.
This creature can live for more than a century and can even survive without food for up to seven years. Salamanders have six feather-like gills and smooth pink skin, giving them the appearance of a real-life miniature dragon. Although they are amphibians, most salamanders prefer living close to water.

Number 1, the Turritopsis jellyfish, also known as the “immortal jellyfish.”
This extraordinary creature is believed to have the ability to restart its life cycle. After reaching adulthood, it can revert back to its youthful polyp stage, grow into an adult jellyfish again, and repeat the process endlessly. From its earliest stage to adulthood takes only about one week. Once fully developed, it can also release tiny miniature versions of itself.#adventure #work #animals #explore #short #thriller
