New travel restrictions are 'not totally straightforward', admits Transport Secretary Grant Shapps

Travellers arriving in England will be able to end their quarantine period with a negative coronavirus test after five days from December 15, Transport Secretary has announced.

The travel industry welcomed the policy but described it as “long overdue”.

Speaking to Julia Hartley-Brewer on talkRADIO, Grant Shapps outlined the details of how the new system will work.

However, Julia questioned the decision, questioning the Transport Secretary on the decision to ban travel between tiers but allow travel abroad: "You're allowed to travel internationally but not around your own country?"

The Conservative MP defended the decision, saying "We are asking people to be sensible... It's not totally straight forward," but "there aren't restrictions per se."
