The First 10 Things I'd Buy as an Aspiring Wildlife Filmmaker
In the grand scheme of things, wildlife filmmaking is one of the least gear-heavy genres of filmmaking out there. We’re typically working with smaller crews, don’t really require big crazy Hollywood rigs, and often need to travel light when working in the field. That being said, once you reach a certain point in your career, having the right gear can really make or break a shoot or even an entire project. I’ve been fortunate to work on a bunch of different projects this year, both my own personal projects as well as some hired shoots. Whether we like it or not, gear is an essential part of wildlife filmmaking, second to story, collaboration, and execution. If I were really considering pursuing a career in wildlife filmmaking, maybe I have some experience under my belt and am looking to take the next step and invest in a proper setup, these are the first 10 things I’d buy as an aspiring wildlife filmmaker.

📅 About Me
I’ve spent my 20s working in ecotourism and natural history filmmaking. As a whale-watching captain and naturalist, I’ve been fortunate to film everything from the whale migration in Baja to orca encounters in Alaska. Thanks for following along on My Wild Journey!
