Pan-Canadian Early Learning and Child Care System Building: The Education of ECEs
In this video, Christopher Smith (Associate Executive Director of The Muttart Foundation) discusses the importance of the education of early childhood educators to ensure the success of the Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care plan. He identifies degree-level qualifications, specialized curricula, and field placements as key to early childhood educators’ training, to enhance their ability to provide enriching and stimulating programming for children, and the need for ongoing professional learning and development opportunities throughout their careers. He emphasizes that collaboration between provincial/territorial governments and early childhood associations, and strong core funding for educators’ training and development, is necessary to establish comprehensive workforce strategies, and to make a high-quality early learning and child care system a reality in Canada.
