Catherine Johnson: nobody was taking "Mamma Mia!" seriously (2009)

Bristol-based playwright Catherine Johnson talks about the conversation with her agent where an "Abba musical" first gets mentioned.

This is a clip from a 2009 interview with Catherine Johnson which was filmed in front of a live audience at the Bristol Old Vic Studio. It coincided with the launch of her latest play, "Suspension". Tickets to the interview were sold to raise funds for the restoration of the Old Vic's historic Georgian theatre space, which at the time was closed, pending a major refurbishment which was completed in 2012.

The set for Suspension, which closely resembles the Clifton Suspension Bridge, can be seen in the background. I was 19 at the time and I believe we raised around £850.
