280 bpm for 1 minute (single stroke practice) - Stephan "Stocki" Stockburger

PLEASE READ FIRST:

Yes its just the right hand. I practice each body part separat to really focus on what I am doing. My left hand is not that fast, but its coming closer slowly (-: I play heavier sticks than normal... for training I use Vic Firth Classic Metal... but Vic Firth Classic Rock are my standart sticks.
I also practice single strokes with my feet... each one separate...
This training helps you for getting better control and stamina and because its always just for one minute, it also develops your speed... So this is my workout for that, I do it on a daily basis. I start at 220 for one minute ... then one minute rest (time for the other hand) than I increase the speed 5 bpm... up to 280 at the moment (you also can start at 180 and go to 260 or wherever you feel comfortable)... if I fucked up... I keep the speed.. and try it as long as it works without a mistake... than I speed up...I do it for about 30 minutes (sometimes 1 hour or 2 times a day)... that are 15 runs each hand...
the next thing I do is practice balance with 16th single stroke rolls...
my strokes are not that hard.. but they are not tapped either... its about endurance and playing relaxed... if you can play it one minute.. you also can play very hard strokes for 30 seconds... and that is enough I think... which band uses 30second nonstopblasts (without fillins or something like that in it)
maybe that helps you to speed up blasting and everything else.
In the end: Speed is not everything (rudiments, balance, independence,... are as important) but for Deathmetaldrummers its a need.
