Nagorno-Karabakh: The Wins, the Losses, and the Art of the Deal
In this edition of the ongoing series of conversations with leading Russian foreign policy experts, ORF’s Distinguished Fellow Nandan Unnikrishnan talks to Dr. Dmitri Trenin, Director of Carnegie Moscow Center on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. The disputed area, which officially belongs to Azerbaijan but is under the control of Armenia, saw a violent conflict erupt at the end of September that eventually came to an end with a peace deal brokered by Russia earlier this month. In the light of these developments, Dr. Trenin discusses the role played by Russia in the matter, its wins and losses. Apart from the two direct parties to the conflict, he also examines the role of Turkey, the US, and France to analyze what does the future hold for the restive region.
