Indonesia's Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki volcano on the remote island of Flores in East Nusa Tenggara province spewed towering columns of hot ash high into the air since its initial huge eruption on November 4 killed nine people and injured dozens of others.
The 1,584-metre (5,197-foot) volcano shot up ash at least 17 times on Tuesday, with the largest column recorded at 9 kilometres high, the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation said in a statement.
Authorities on Tuesday expanded the danger zone as the volcano erupted again to 9 kilometres as volcanic materials, including smoldering rocks, lava, and hot, thumb-size fragments of gravel and ash, were thrown up to 8 kilometres from the crater on Friday.

Several international airlines canceled flights to and from Indonesia's tourist island of Bali on Wednesday as an ongoing volcanic eruption left travelers stranded at airports.
The island where the eruption happened is 500km away on the east of Bali Indonesia.

Airlines including Jetstar and Qantas announced on Wednesday that they would halt flights to Bali due to the ongoing volcanic ash fallout. Flightradar24, a plane tracking website, also confirmed cancellations by AirAsia and Virgin, highlighting the widespread impact of the volcanic activity on regional air travel. The ash clouds from Mount Lewotobi pose serious risks to aircraft engines and visibility, making safe passage through affected areas challenging.

Indonesia, home to nearly 130 active volcanoes, sits along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an area known for its high seismic and volcanic activity due to tectonic plate movements. The ash column from Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has reached impressive heights, blanketing surrounding areas in sand and ash fall. The Ring of Fire’s volcanic activity remains a regular aspect of life in Indonesia, yet the severe eruptions continue to pose challenges to safety and infrastructure.
