Beyond the Horserace: Protest, Power and Election 2016 | The New School
This event is part of a series of talks at The New School (http://www.newschool.edu) hosted by The Nation magazine (http://www.thenation.com).
More than oneyear ago, concerned that ordinary citizens would be locked out of the presidential nominating process, The Nation argued that a vigorously contested primary would be good for the candidates, for the Democratic Party, and for democracy. Two months later, Senator Bernie Sanders formally launched a campaign that has already transformed the politics of the 2016 presidential race. Meanwhile, the GOP primary season featuring Donald Trump's political emergence and Ted Cruz's extreme nativism has been both volatile and unexpected. Join the conversation on the 2016 election with some of The Nation's keenest political minds. Audience questions will follow the moderated discussion.
Welcome remarks by Mary Watson, Executive Dean of Schools of Public Engagement at The New School (http://www.newschool.edu/public-engag...).
Featuring:
Katrina vanden Heuvel, Editor and Publisher, The Nation;
Joan Walsh, National Affairs Correspondent, The Nation, MSNBC political analyst;
Dorian Warren, Fellow, Roosevelt Institute, Nation Editorial Board member;
Ari Berman, author, Give Us the Ballot, Nation Contributing Writer.
Moderated by journalist and author Laura Flanders, http://www.lauraflanders.com/
Location: The Auditorium, Alvin Johnson/J.M. Kaplan Hall
