Dinosaur Hunter project was led by a crazy film-lover dream: making an action movie that could’ve been produced in the 80/90’s, starring with the most important actors of the genre. The director and mashup creator Antonio Maria Da Silva (Terminator Vs Robocop, Hell’s Club), tried a time travel, like he was palliating to the absence of a major cinematographic object that would have deserved to be produced, back then.

Dinosaur Hunter is a 2 hours live-action mashup movie. It’s an unusual format for this specific artistic form. The tribute aspect to the cinema is secondary, since the movie’s first ambition was to deliver an original fictional story, with new dialogues and voice over. Dinosaur Hunter is also leading thinking about popular cinema and icons (Arnold, Sly, Willis,JCVD and more), about how they influenced cinematographic industry and aesthetical codes. Beside that, it’s an epic adventure movie, in Hollywood’s pure tradition.

Antonio Maria Da Silva’s art has always been inhabited by the same obsession for persistence of past images in present time. However, the director also introduced an original theme, ecology and environment: the story shows how human (forced) presence can deregulate natural balance.


The work made on dialogues and words extend the movie double project (tribute and narrative ambition). Character lines are always balancing between narrative obligations (help the story) and thinking about these movie stars, how they literally shined, and how they represented a triumphant America. Reflection is a topic that crosses this movie and all the mashup artistic movement: how to regenerate images that are stuck in an endless present with a new narrative organization, so that the picture will never turn off, and never stop its activity.

Mashup-cinema offers the possibility to re-think our relationship with movies, and calls for an evolution in movie production. If such a feature-film project can exist with just the action of editing, recycling, adding effects and recreating lights can be done, so no limit will stop ambitious creators. So with old movies, we could be able to do other movies, with new stories, over and over again. It’s already happening in Internet, now it needs to find its way in movie theaters.
