Sacajawea - The ORIGINAL Sacajawea (Sacagawea) with Lyrics

The young Shoshone girl who would accompany Lewis and Clark on their great journey west is not mentioned much in Lewis' writings. Still, it is hard to imagine as successful of a venture as the Corp of Discovery without the help of Sacajawea.

As the adventurers passed through the territory of over 50 native tribes the presence of Sacajawea (Sacagawea) with her young child had to have softened the hearts of the native peoples the explorers encountered. The fortunate chance meeting with Sacajawea's Shoshone chief brother and the obtaining of horses for the Corp's passing through the Rocky Mountains was essential to their successful crossing. When a boat tipped over it was Sacajawea who is credited with saving many of their most essential items.
